The true identity of the new brand "DDDD (Defo)" is finally revealed, and the current state of apparel fashion.
-Please tell us about the start of [DDDD].
SHINJI: As part of the 125th anniversary project of COCOS Nobuoka Co., Ltd., I was appointed creative director with the desire to take on a new challenge specializing in fashion, and I decided to launch a brand together with ZEN and SHIGEKI.
-What is ZEN's role?
SHINJI: As an art director, ZEN is using his experiences to reflect the relationship between fashion and the body.
-ZEN Please tell us how you got involved.
ZEN: After I retired from athletics, I was thinking about expressing the feeling I got from parkour through art, and then I was approached by SHINJI to be their art director. I felt that apparel was a very interesting field to challenge myself in.
-SHIGEKI How did you get involved?
SHINJI: When we decided to launch this brand, FUJITA immediately came to mind as the most suitable person, so I asked him to join in creating the brand when he had just become independent.
SHIGEKI: The challenge of starting a new brand from scratch was a new experience for me, so I really wanted to do it.
-How did you solidify the core of the brand?
SHIGEKI: Our mindset is the core of our brand. We want to go beyond the boundaries of fashion and spread a new culture.
ZEN: I incorporate the philosophy of parkour as a source of inspiration into my fashion creations.
-What is the origin of the brand name "DDDD"?
SHINJI: Actually, it all started with a visual. We decided that a brand logo that looked like a shape would be good, so we came up with the design by lining up four distorted arrow-like symbols like the letter "D" on a whiteboard. It also makes up the initials of the four words that we have set as our brand concept: "Dimensional," "Daring," "Deviant," and "Dazzle."
-What is the theme for the 2025 SS season?
SHINJI: As this is our first season, we are basing our expression on our core theme of "DRESS UP LAZY." We will be proposing a style that values individuality by wearing sophisticated items in a rugged way.
ZEN: While we have our own preferences, we are not fixated on the fact that the clothes are beautiful, and instead aim for a style that allows us to live freely.
SHIGEKI: We value creating clothes that highlight the wearer's individuality and provide items that can be enjoyed as they change over time.
-What is the outcome of your debut collection?
SHINJI: If I had to say, there is no landing point.
ZEN: We explored the relationship between fashion and the body, reflecting the values we three share.
SHIGEKI: We continue to question the value of clothing and incorporate experimental materials and details.
